Whole-Hearted Connection – Wholistic Coaching for Athletes

Ready to focus on your whole life, not just your sport?

“The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.” ~ Aristotle

An athlete is a human being, not just an athlete. Each part of their life is intertwined with the other part. If one part is not working optimally, the other parts will be effected and injuries or burnout could result.

This coaching packages looks at your wholistic life (your arena), so athletes can increase their self-awareness, manage their life, increase resilience and stay focused to perform at their best.

Professional athletes work extremely hard to reach their potential within their sport. Wholistic coaching (i.e. your whole-hearted connection) can assist them with their self-management, goal-setting, questioning limiting beliefs, untangling fear and other draining habits and increasing effective communication skills.

Our coaching services for athletes are designed to support and nurture your success on and off the sporting field.

The International Coach Federation (ICF) refers to coaching as “partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.” Coaching recognises the client as the expert in their own world (life and work) and knows every person is creative, resourceful, and whole.

Basically the coaching process is about identifying where you are now, where you would like to be and then close that gap. The coach does this through –

  • discovering, clarifying, and aligning with where the client wants to be,
  • encouraging self-discovery and trust within themselves,
  • eliciting client-generated solutions and strategies,
  • keeping the client accountable and ensuring they are taking responsibility for themselves
  • providing support to the client.

At Sport Life Flow, we have completed a range of courses and certificates in a variety of skills and tools to support you to look wholistically at your life (not just as an athlete). Subsequently, that is why I have chosen to focus on Wholistic coaching for athletes (and it can include non-diet-based nutrition as I am certified in that) as we are living systems and are made up of different moving parts.

With so much advice available freely online, you may be wondering if you need life coaching.

If you identify with any of the following statements, consider working with a certified life coach:

  • You feel overwhelmed with all of your commitments and are ready to simplify your life and/or have greater balance / harmony,
  • You don’t have time for the other important aspects of your life and feel “time-poor”,
  • You need some help to relax and focus on your well-being,
  • You have forgotten who you are outside of your sport and want to discover your other strengths and gifts,
  • You don’t have a clear path after you finish your sport and want to start exploring those options,
  • You need to increase your life skills (i.e. self-management and communication skills) for life within and outside of sport,
  • You want support to deal with fear and self-doubt, so you can trust yourself more,
  • You need support to uncover your hidden strengths, talents and resources as well as see insights to current challenges,
  • You are ready to live a more meaningful and fulfilling life!

We focus specifically on you and your specific needs. If required, we can design specific exercises for you. Basically, we will be working together, so you can develop insights in to your life so you can respond to life and live authentically.

Even those who have a comprehensive understanding of life may still receive the following benefits from working with a Wholistic coach:

A certified Wholistic coach will provide personalised support

It’s easy to look online or read magazine articles that tell you how you should lead your life, but everyone’s life is unique. It’s impossible to prescribe a one-size-fits-all solution without knowing you and your individual circumstances. You must consider background, goals, strengths, talents, vision – because there is no quick fix – life is a daring adventure (if you choose to live it).

A Wholistic coach will tailor make coaching program that meets your individual needs.

Wholistic coaching will keep you on track

To achieve success through Wholistic coaching, you may need to change habits that have taken a lifetime to create. While the outcomes are all positive, the process may present some challenges. A life will keep you accountable, help you to set realistic short and long-term milestones, and help you understand how to handle those times you fall down (sorry, slip-ups are inevitable!) without it meaning the end of your adventure.

A Wholistic coach can help you learn to trust yourself again

When you’re learning and trying to make significant changes, life can confuse and overwhelm you. Regular Wholistic coaching will help you and your lifestyle to make taking control of your life achievable and straightforward.

When was the last time you took some time out and cared for your self?

Wholistic Coaching for athletes focuses on you and your requirements. Quite often in life, we need support. Depending on the situation, that help could come from a good book, friends and family, a mentor and other times we need a professional. Someone who is neutral, objective and has your best interests at heart.

In the same way athletes have coaches for sport, many athletes are now seeing the benefit of bringing in experienced coaches to support them with their own personal adventure of life, so they can live life with greater peace, clarity and harmony.

As we are all unique – there are no gimmicks or standard scripts in our Wholistic coaching sessions! We take in to consideration your unique gifts, talents, commitment and motivation to help you through the change you want to make in your life and support you to deepen your knowledge about your authentic self.

“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

and

“Owning our story can be hard but not nearly as difficult as spending our lives running from it. Embracing our vulnerabilities is risky but not nearly as dangerous as giving up on love and belonging and joy – the experiences that make us the most vulnerable. Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light.” ~ Brené Brown

The coaching and mentoring model I use when working with clients draws from the latest evidence-based coaching and educational research, intuitive eating, cognitive behavioural, self-compassion and mindfulness-based tools and techniques, which (simply) look at the connection between thoughts, emotions, and actions. The intention is to support you to discover proactive ways to solve challenges and untangle from unhelpful thinking and behaviour.

About Jane – the Coach

Jane Taylor (M.EdSt) is a former Professional Athlete, Registered P-12 Teacher (since 2002), High Performance Coach with Tennis Australia and ICF PCC Coach who is committed to supporting people change the way they see themselves and helping by “(Un)Learning, so You Can Reconnect and Engage With Your Innate Potential and BE Whole-Heartedly YOU… One Habit at a Time!”, so we can connect with life authentically and live in peace and harmony. She is a Trained Teacher in Mindful Self-Compassion and has been practising mindfulness since 2008.

Jane has been lucky enough to work and support over 31500 adults in leadership, coaching, education, emotional intelligence, mindfulness meditation, self-compassion, mental health promotion and prevention and organisational wellbeing and many thousands of students and young people within sport and education.

Since retiring as a Professional athlete, going to university to become a health and physical education teacher, working in a National Mental Health and Wellbeing initiative and then starting the adventure of mindfulness in 2008 and later self-compassion, I have had a number of athletes (past and present), parents and coaches ask me about the tools I use with clients and the ones I know that would have been beneficial growing up in elite and then professional sport. So I decided to create the “Adolescent Athlete’s Well-Being Toolkit” after years of learning or maybe it is better said unlearning using the tools of mindfulness and self-compassion. This is the toolkit I wish I had as a professional athlete.
